A Celebration of Life

Honoring our Ancestors

What's On My Altar

I had pictures of family members who have passed on, a candle for each one, leaves, pine cones, juniper berries and acorns, pomegranates, and one large candle for all other ancesters I have never met. I also included items of jewelry from my family and my husband included his fathers pocket knife and a few mementos of his mothers.

How I Celebrated Samhain

We had a simple ceremony celebrating our ancesters lives and then we ate our meal at the table with everything set up on it. We put down a plate of food for the ancesters. Then we shared memories and stories of our loved ones. We let the candles burn out on their own. We also burned Samhain Spirit Incense.

Tips and Tricks

  • I like to use as much as I can from my own surroundings when decorating an altar or mixing incense. I think it gives more of a personal energy to the ritual as these things were grown in my own gardens or in the woods around our home.
