About My Tattoo
My tattoo, which I designed and is located on my right hip, is of a soaring swallow carrying forget-me-not flowers.
Why I Chose It
While the tattoo itself isn't necessarily pagan, it's origins lie in a beautiful Roman/Greek myth I read about the swallow. According to this legend, swallows carry the souls of dead children onto the next life, making them the totem bird for mourning mothers. I added the forget-me-not's simply to strengthen the symbolism behind my tattoo, which is in honor of my unborn child.
I also like that the swallow is associated with love, fidelity, a return to family, and freedom.
Tips and Tricks
- Don't pick at any scabbing or peeling during the healing process. This can cause some of the color to come off of the design (or, at least, that's what happened in my case).
