I always feel strange about Imbolc. I think it’s because in Winnipeg it’s still getting colder right now. January and February are our coldest months. Not until March will it seem like things are heading towards spring. So I guess I’ve never really figured out how this holiday fits into my climate zone.
Hi Patti, Question. If the shortest day of the year is June 22, then wouldn’t that day be the dead centre of winter?? Meaning the beginning and ending of winter would be 6 weeks either side. Spring would therefore begin about 5th August. Let me know what your feelings are towards this. Blessed Be. GG
GG (3): Not exactly. Technically, spring begins around the time of the Vernal Equinox, which is around the third week of September for our Southern Hemisphere readers. While June 21/22 is the shortest day of the year (Yule), it’s also the first official day of winter for folks below the equator.
