I wanted to share with all of you something from Jason Pitzl-Waters' blog over at The Wild Hunt. It seems that a Pagan group from upstate New York is facing some serious legal problems, which they believe stems from discrimination. Jason has reposted their letter, in which they are requesting help from anyone who may know (or be) a Pagan-friendly lawyer. For details on the case, be sure to read The Endangered Maetreum of Cybele.

It really confuzzlecates me how people need a specially oagan friendly lawyer. I mean, I do get that specializing helps but I don;t see how they can have been turned down by so many. Rigths are rights and we shouldn’t have to sp specifically state that yes gays have them, yes pagans have them, yes people under 5 feet tall have them, yes browns have them, yes…well you get the idea. I hope they find good representation. I am looking into heading back to school for a paralegal degree, looking into studying Druidry, and my son is starting back to school to become a lawyer! If they still need help in 8 years maybe we can take it on!
It’s not the group’s place to suddenly decide the taxes are “illegal.” They should have paid their taxes all along, whether they disagreed or not. No wonder nobody will represent them!
I’m sorry, but if The Holy Land Experience, a theme park in Orlando which sell tickets at $35 a pop, receives tax exemption status then the Maetreum of Cybele should as well. Maetreum of Cybele is a religious convent, THLE doesn’t even hide that they are a theme park and not a church… they even say they are a park right on their web page http://www.holylandexperience.com/ . No disrespect for the makers of the theme park… just an example of the double standard.
