9th Human-Fairy Relations Congress Held
Sunday July 12, 2009
The realm of the Fae is one that is often up for spirited debate in the Pagan community. On the one hand, we have folks whose tradition works hand in hand with such otherworldly beings, and on the other, we have people who think it's all a load of silliness. Regardless, there's no escaping the fact that some people do take the notion of the Fae as a very important and integral part of their belief system. That's why this article from the Washington Spokesman-Review is so refreshing.
For the last nine years, the annual Fairy and Human Relations Congress has been held in the Cascade mountains. The outdoor metaphysical festival celebrates the fairy realm and those who interact with it. What's nice about this particular piece is that reporter Kevin Graman could have taken the easy route and made a bunch of jokes about Tinkerbell or whatever. Instead, he takes a respectful approach, being sensitive to the fact that a LOT of different belief systems are represented at this event. Kudos to Graman and the paper for putting together an informative article that doesn't make the local metaphysical community look like a bunch of fruitcakes.

Very respectful and well done article. Too bad the comments don’t match.
“Religion is not just the opium of the masses, it is the cyanide.” Honestly, how in the world do people follow the absurd stories in this religion/cult belief and the countless others that exist? It’s amazing what loneliness and the concept of death will bring out in people.
Well that clinches it – I’m moving to Washington! I’ve always known they were more in touch with the Fae realm than many other places. The only other area I’ve visited that is more powerful with the Fae creatures is the Lake District in the north of England.
Oh, and Zach, why are you reading this blog at all if you don’t believe in the religion?? Go find your own page that caters to Atheists!

Yep, we’re lonely. That’s why so many Wiccans choose solitary paths. Because they just hate being alone so much.
Anyway, this looks like a lot of fun! I wish I could go to one of these, even if I don’t really believe in faeries. Still looks nice.
Graman did throw in the mandatory phrase “self-proclaimed witch”…
