An Apology for an Error

By , About.com GuideDecember 16, 2008

Follow me on:

Edited 12/17: I was just looking over the links in the article on House Resolution 847 and caught something I had missed before. It appears that HR 847 was actually passed in 2007, not this year. I do appreciate the folks who forwarded it to me - it's definitely an important bit of news, but it apparently happened over a year ago. I apologize for not noticing the date when I first posted the entry. I'll go ahead and leave the comments in place, because I think it's important people are aware that this resolution was passed last year, but because it's not as timely or relevant as I first thought it was, I'm going to go ahead and delete the original entry. Again, my apologies.

No wonder Congress never gets anything done. Want to help the government save some money? Stop paying Congress. In fact, just fire them all.

Colossal waste of time, wtf. And if they think christianty was the basis for the American system then maybe they should let their god start taking care of wrongs instead of the legal system…. but anyway since they feel it is so important to pass a resolution to reject bigotry and persecution of christianity how about including the others religions as well…. But that will never happen, cause others don’t include servitude as the basic building block… to me it seems like a way to keep themselves in their positions of authority in the house. They seem to like sheep who will just follow along.

The econmy is in shambles and this is more important! Can we impeach everyone and start over again?

(5) Drew says:

This is absolutely disgusting.

I do enjoy item #4. Wasn’t the US founded when England tried to force certain groups to believe and worship in certain ways? That was a struggle WITHIN Christianity, not between Christianity and some other group(s).

Maybe we should all go back to England now.

What every happened to “separation of church and state”? What next prayer in public schools again?

(8) Mary says:

What ever happened to “separation of church and state”? I geuss that’s only if the religion isn’t Christianity.

Wow, I am SOOOOOO glad my tax dollars went to this, instead of things like fixing the economy, feeding hungry children, getting health care for said children and helping soldiers. Gosh I’m glad that we were able to once again alienate the fastest growing religious demographic in the world. Great job.

What bigotry and persecution directed toward christians in the United States of America. Don’t they mean the bigotry and persecution directed BY christians in the USA?

(11) Ravenna says:

This is just ridiculous. Christian persecution and acknowledgement that Christianity is “Big”.

We are facing the most difficult economic times in decades and we’re spending money to have our lawmakers tell us a religion is “Big” and “Respected”?

I really can not wait until the middle of January…though a scene from the movie “Dave” comes to mind right now.

(12) LD says:

Is anyone else besides me writing angry letters to their representatives right now?

This is a huge waste of time, money and resources. If Congress were a company and I were the boss I would fire these people (and they should be afraid of getting “fired” by us).

(13) Jen S. says:

I cannot believe that this was passed, and worded as such! It’s just disgusting, makes me so angry! To say that Christianity is the end all and be all is just wrong.

(14) angela says:

What happened to seperation of church and state? I for one will be writing letters to everyone I can. Shouldn’t they be spending time and money on more important issues?

(15) paganwiccan says:

It appears that this was actually passed a year ago, so sending letters may be a waste of time – it’s entirely possible that the people who voted for it a year ago are no longer in office. My apologies for the confusion – several people sent me linkage and I didn’t catch the date until I re-read the pdf of the actual resolution. I’ve gone ahead and just deleted the whole thing, since it’s no longer timely.

Timely or not, Patti, ist is still something that we should know about. It was and still is a colossal waste of time, money and is offensive to the nonchristian citizens of this country.
