Magical Mondays: Toilet Paper!

Monday November 10, 2008

How would you use bathroom tissue in your magical workings?

I spent a few hours watching a Dirty Jobs marathon, and in addition to furthering my serious Mike Rowe crush, it also hit me that there are a lot of things out there that are so icky people would NEVER think of using them magically. Thus, this week's item.

If you're new to Magical Mondays, here's how it works. Each Monday I'll post a photo of an item -- and the catch is, that it's *not* going to be a traditional magical object. No crystals, herbs, or other things typically associated with spellwork or magic. The idea is to see how many magical uses we can come up with for the item. No right answers, no wrong answers, just sharing ideas. Post your suggestions in the Comments section, and see what other readers have to say as well!

To see previous editions of Magical Mondays, you can read here: Magical Mondays. Magical Mondays was off last week, but before that we came up with ideas for string, and there were some really great ideas. Readers recommended using string as hair for a poppet, as part of a binding ritual, or to make a dreamcatcher. Michael, an active-duty Marine, ties consecrated string around his rifle and part of his Humvee to protect himself and his buddies from misfires or damage. You can still contribute to that conversation, so feel free to chime in if you missed it.

So this week's item is one that everyone seems to have on hand, no pun intended. Toilet tissue is light yet sturdy, comes in a long roll, and absorbs water nicely. Your choice of two-ply or single, plain or with designs on it, a single roll or an entire pack. How are you going to use your toilet paper in a magical working?

Okay, here goes - how about using it in spell to clean up the last remnants of a relationship that went to… er, the dogs?

One could conceivably use toilet paper as a medium on which to write a spell of something one wanted to be rid of, and “flush” it away.

I was thinking that you could use it to cast a circle, as long as you were standing on rock or dirt. (No dry grass here, obviously.) If you made a circle of toilet paper and lit it on fire, would it burn quickly-but-evenly? Or would it result in a bunch of witches running around frantically while little bits of flames flew everywhere…?

There is actually a Toilet Paper Hex spell in Dorothy Morrison’s “Utterly Wicked” book that calls for you to write down a full description of your bad habit on toilet paper, use it to wipe yourself and then flush it.

I haven’t used this one, but there is definitely some strong imagery there!

Mrs B you beat me to the punch. I was going to mention that spell in my favorite authors book. Besides what is already mentioned,
you could use toilet paper to stuff a poppet.

The rolls make fantastic candle molds.

As for the paper itself, well, since it burns really nicely you could fashion a poppet out of it and put all your unwanteds in it then you have a choice, flush it or burn it…. actually how about burn it and then flush it….. All that you don’t want gone, twice.

I was going to say the same thing. Use it for shedding those bad habits you don’t want anymore. Write down what you dont want or what you wish to change in your life and burn it in your cauldron or ritual fire outside.
In a way sending your prayers or wishes up to the Gods and Goddesses. It’s worth a shot anyway.
I did one last week (only I didn’t use toilet paper) and it has allready shown signs of working.
Another use would be to roll it out and write prayers , words of incuragement or even funny jokes on them them. Roll it back up and put it out in the bathroom durring a dinner party or other gathering. Bet that will get some conversation going when they come back from the bathroom LOL.YOu could write something funny like “I can’t afford to supply any reading material in here so this is the best I could do.” or ” while you just sitting there here’s the latelest scoop on the poop! ” ( no pun antended.) LOL!
Have fun!!!!

(8) Kriosa says:

I used an empty toilet paper roll for the body of a homemade oak king figure (with an acorn head!) that came out really well. The roll provided enough structure for the figure to stand up easily on its own, and since it was covered with an ornamental paper and oak leaf “robe” you can’t tell that the t.p. roll is inside.

(9) Anavrin says:

Definitely flush those bad habits, past criticisms (from ourselves and from others), hard feelings, and anything else that takes away from a more positive healthy you…even pouring any disease or sickness into the toilet paper by actually breathing onto it, letting the sickness transfer to the toilet paper, or drawing or writing the name of the sickness onto the t.p. and then letting it all go as you watch it swirl down the drain!

I use the dowels as an armature for handmade
Greenman wish tree boxes - sculpted/covered into the tree or stump of one’s choice
with various spice or nut clays. (along with various herbs as ground foliage -
you can keep your wishes or needful oracle questions in them - or jewelry or what not.
It certainly seems to work for me!
TP also makes a very fine papier mache!
