I'm a big fan of using my slow cooker (or crockpot, as it's known in some circles) to prepare giant steaming vats of warm drinks in the chilly months. There's something comforting about the smell of warm cider, apples, cinnamon, or all the other things you can brew in a slow cooker -- and it really is one of those "set it and forget it" kinds of appliances.
