Hey, Canadian Pagans!

Saturday June 7, 2008
A reader writes in that she's looking for Pagan wedding officiants in the Vancouver, B.C. area. I know there's a lot of Pagans and Wiccans in Canada, but don't know any personally in that area. If you or someone you know would be interested in helping her out, please let me know in the Comments section. Thanks to all of you in advance!

(1) Steve McCavour says:

Try the Unitarian Universalist churches in the vancouver area. They have lay chaplains that are licensed to conduct legal marriages and they will do wiccan and pagan handfastings. You can see a list of congregations websites at http://www.cuc.ca/congregations/index.htm#BC

Correction to Steve: The UU ministers are not lay people (at least not in the U.S.), but are actually ordained. HOWEVER, they are not “Christian” as most of us use the word (long story there as to our UU church), and they are generally pagan-friendly. They will usually be willing to perform a pagan wedding; our minister just performed a gay wedding ceremony for two of our friends. Although in our state, it’s not a “legal” wedding, which is a damned shame….

So, definitely check with the local UU churches, and even ask them if they have a CUUPS (Covenant of UU Pagans) chapter there. If they do, the CUUPS coordinator might know of a pagan in the area who is allowed to perform legal weddings.

(3) Ken Snelson says:

Unitarian Churches are multy denominational usualy do any maraiges allowed by law. Not all U.U. Churches have ordained ministers, only lay led services.
Many U.U. Communities have an active Pagan group and can usualy do legal weddings.

(4) Lady Guen says:

Check with the WorldTree Ministry (http://members.shaw.ca/worldtreeministry) in Nanaimo as they are legally able to do handfasting. Also check with the Aquarian Tabernacle Church (http://members.shaw.ca/ATCCanada/) in Victoria as they are also legally able to perform handfastings in Vancouver.

Both have ordained ministers.

Blessed Be

Hi all,
Vancouver is so close to Bellingham, WA and I know several people ordained to marry that live here. Be sure to check in Blaine, Bellingham, and Mount Vernon too. The states are so close :)
