"Let His Days Be Few... His Wife a Widow"

By , About.com GuideAugust 18, 2007

Follow me on:

I can't even begin to describe how astonished I was when I saw this: Buena Park Pastor Asks Followers to Pray for Death of Critics. Admittedly, this is the same, uh... delightful gentleman who called for a boycott of Disneyland a few years back when they held their first "Gay Day," so I suppose we shouldn't be surprised by his current shenanigans, but gee whiz. Calling for prayers for the death of your enemies... who turned you in to the IRS for maybe violating your non-profit status? That takes the cake, more so because it's coming from someone who's supposed to be a spiritual leader.

He goes as far as to refer to two members of Americans United for Separation of Church and State as "enemies of God," and explains that he's just doing what God told him to do. AU is a liberal watchdog group that alerted the IRS to Drake's non-profit status when he used church letterhead to endorse a political candidate. The IRS has, in the past, investigated other non-profit groups for the possibility of political activity, so Drake's hardly being singled out.

I wonder if Pastor Drake has read The Secret, or if he's familiar with the Law of Attraction?

I’m thinkin this guy should be the target of his own condemnation… People really shouldn’t be so quick to judge others.

Ugh…how disgusting!

I can’t describe how sick and tired I am of people using the excuse “God told me to do it” to justify such behavior as this.

Apparently he’s not familiar with the Law of Threefold…. “Good luck with that type of thinking, ‘Pastor’.”

May the Erinyes do what they will to this man for all the harm he has knowingly caused to his congregation that put faith in him just because he wanted to turn over a profit on their wallets.

THIS IS PREMEDITATED MURDER!!!! I AM FLOORED THAT HE HAD THE GUTS TO SAY THIS OUT-LOUD! I WONDER HOW MANY OF HIS “FOLLOWERS” FELL OUT OF THE PEW WHEN THEY HEARD THIS. AND NO ONE IS STANDING UP AGAINST HIM IN HIS CHURCH????? HE IS WRONG IN SOOO MANY WAYS.

Gee, if this guy was a Muslim, they would say he was promoting terrorism – wouldn’t they! People like him are why I started following my Pagan path.

‘an it harm none’ do what ye will’ – who is on the ’side of the angels’? Not this man whom it seems uses his god to hide his ignorance behind.

I don’t even need to bring in the law of 3 or the rede; this man is beyond comprehending any ideas other than those sprung from his own tiny brain. Way back when I was a christian, I was taught that cursing — calling for harm to be placed on a person, place, or thing — was a mortal sin. Yet he worries about the sins and transgressions of others??

Bugs Bunny said it best, “What a maroon!” How narrow a view of the world and of the Divine to even think he knows what it/they want! I wonder how he’d feel knowing this little pagan is gonna pray for him – after all, I’ve heard the Goddess loves it when we watch over “dumb” animals.

Americans United for Separation of Church and State is an excellent choice if you’re interested in joining or giving them a donation. Rev. Barry Lynn is an example of a true Christian, and regularly puts himself and AU on the line to fight these battles.

They were involved in the Dover PA school board matter. They also, just by informing a school board in Northern California that they would pursue legal action, were able to stop that district from instituting a similar policy.

Do unto others as you would have done to yourself.
Sounds like the preacher conveniently forgot the basic biblical law from the 10 commandments.
Do as ye will and harm ye none.
What you sow is what you reap.

There are so many ways to say it, and Karma, law of three, will come back to this man, and his followers.

The universe takes care of her own.

It is that using god as an excuse for anything that happens or you do that turned me away from christianity and to the religions that espouse self.
I can only say that his words will get back to him at some point and then will he still be saying it was god’s will.

This is where so many will say, “He’s not a *true* Christian.” But what is a *true* Christian? Someone who follows the Bible? “Do unto others…” makes a fleeting appearance in the Bible but wishing the death of your enemies is all over the place. Read nearly any Psalm.

Which Biblical directive is *true?* Like Susan B said, it’s whatever your own agenda happens to be, right?

Thanks Pastor Drake for my daily why-I’m-no-longer-Christian reminder.

All you can do is live by the rede & feel sadness for those who don’t. One of the tenents of Wicca is tolerance. Though it is hard to understand, I try to have it for people like this.

After watching “God’s Warriors” on CNN, this kind of attitude and behavior is not surprising. Too many ‘religious’ are actually ill, mis, or non-educated and really do not know what their scriptures ACTUALLY say. Thank the gods we do NOT adhere to the Abrahamiac religions, as ALL of them seem to be nuts in their own ways, with ignorant fanatics getting all the news (and what is scary; followers. I am more agnostic then pagan, but even so I fear ANY of the biblical types that are convinced that they are the only ones with the truth and all others are false/satanic/damned etc. I am sick and tired of bigots and self righteous assholes!!!
