What's On My Altar
This is my coven's Yule altar from 2007, and in fact is also the altar used for my 3rd Degree initiation. There is a Yule log with a candle for each member of the group, as well as statues of the gods of our tradition. The candle to the left is the sun, obviously, and the ritual welcomed the sun back to the earth. If you look closely in the background on the right hand side, you'll see a white basket and several wrapped gifts -- these are items we collected to give to a family who was less fortunate than us.
How I Celebrated Yule
I began this ceremony with my High Priestess, who performed my 3rd Degree initiation, which was incredibly moving and powerful. Afterwards, the rest of the group joined us and we celebrated the sun's return to the earth. We shared a potluck feast, and gathered up items to give to a needy family we knew in our community. It was such a great feeling to give to someone just because we could, and really honored the Yule season for us.
Tips and Tricks
- I love using natural items on my altar, and it's a great way to bring the outdoors inside during the winter months.
