What I Made

Yule Logs!

We make these every year in a class I teach at DragonMarsh in Riverside, Ca.

These were some I made to sell for charity.

What Inspired Me

Many people in Calif do not have fireplaces so I wanted to make a candle style Yule log but still keeping with tradition.

The wood base is made from the previous years Yule tree. The bits of decor can be natural such as leaves, berries, dried fruit, and bark roses or recycled Yule decor such as tincil, buttons, wreath/tree bits, ribbon etc.

The candles can be burnt down and refilled with new candles or after burning the candles down the base can be burnt in a sabbat bonfire later in the year. Remember to remove any plastic bits before lighting.

Tips and Tricks

  • Use rocks glued on the bootm to keep log from rolling or cut the bottom flat.
  • Line candle holes with metal/foil so the candles don't set the wood on fire.
  • Hot glue guns or pots work best for glue.
  • Rub candles with pine, cedar, or fir oil for a great scent when burning.I use DragonMarsh Yule Spiritual Oil on mine. Sometimes I include a bottle with the log as a gift.
  • If you give them as gifts, add a tag to tell the history or a little bit about the log. Also burning instructions.
