What I Made
The Goddess, a decorative figure made from white clay and painted silver. She hangs above my bed and watches over me as I sleep.
What Inspired Me
I made this on Ostara 2009 with some leftover clay, and had seen some Goddess designs in pictures and thought it would be a fun thing to try. Of all my crafts, this is the one I'm most proud of and am grateful for the opportunity to share it with everyone.
Tips and Tricks
- This design is reasonably basic, but:
- Construct the body, the head and the arms separately. Mould the breasts and shoulders around them to hold them together.
- Make it as if it were a 3D shape cut in half, to get the relief piece effect. Build it on a flat surface, so that it will hang flat, and cover the surface with a plastic sheet so it will easily peel off.
- Make and indentation on her back or neck to hang on a nail. Ensure it's roughly in the centre so she won't hang lopsided.
- Smooth over any cracks or bumps with extra clay after the main bulk has dried. Cover with at least 2 layers of paint.
