Where I Went
Calanais Stone Circle, Isle of Skye, Scotland, UK
Why It Was Magical
The Calanais stone circle is a very serene, but subtly powerful spot. While there are several houses and farms surrounding it, it is still isolated in a sense, by time and by sensory perception. We had the place to ourselves after a while, as the wind started to blow chilly. We watched the lowering sun and enjoyed the solitude.
Advice
- There are several other circles in the Calanais complex, each one smaller that the last. Please go find as many as you like, they are all isolated and sacred.
How to Get There
Depends on where you are starting from, but if you can make it to Ullapool or the Isle of Skye, you can take a ferry. From Ullapool it's a 2 hour ferry to Stornoway, and about a half hour drive from there. From Skye, it's a half hour fery, but about 1.5 hours drive from the dock at Tarbert.
