The Maetreum of Cybele is a Pagan group in upstate New York which has had a number of legal issues arising over the past few years. Stemming from an issue related to their tax-exempt status, the Maetreum of Cybele is a topic we’ve discussed quite a few times here at About Pagan/Wiccan. The group, which is a non-profit organization offering religious services to primarily women, is located in the town of Palenville, NY. The town denied their application for tax exempt status as a religious group in 2007, despite their status as an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) religious organization. Read updates here about the Maetreum of Cybele and this precedent-setting legal case.
