How to Make a Tarot Card Bag

Many people who read Tarot have more than one deck. While you can certainly keep your cards in the original box, it's always nice to make each set their very own bag for storage. This is a great way to keep your cards safe when you're not using them. You can sew one in just a few minutes with supplies you probably have laying around the house.

You'll need:

  • A piece of fabric in the pattern of your choice, about 12 - 14" long by about 6" wide
  • Two lengths of ribbon, cut to about 12" each
  • 4 - 6 beads with holes large enough for the ribbon to pass through

The first step is to press down about an inch of material on each of the short sides of the fabric. This will create the tunnels that your drawstrings run through. Fold the raw edge towards the wrong side of the fabric, and stitch with a seam allowance of about 5/8".

Next, fold the material in half, right sides together, matching up the stitching lines and outer edges. Stitch up each of the long sides, from the fold line to the stitches you made in the first step. This creates the bag shape, with a pair of tunnels at the top, open at each end.

Turn the bag right side out, and use a safety pin to thread the ribbons. Each should start on one side of the bag, loop around on the opposite side, and then end back on the side it started. This way you have two ribbons that cross over each other. Knot the beads on the end of the ribbons as shown in the photo, and tie the ends together.

Use your bag to store Tarot cards when you're not using them. If you wish, you can consecrate it during a ritual prior to use.

Helpful hint: make this bag in a slightly smaller size, out of a heavier material, and use it to store your crystals and magical gemstones.
