August 15 is the birthday of Charles Godfrey Leland, an American folklorist and humorist (born in 1824) who liked to wander around remote European villages and collect old stories. Leland is best known for his work Aradia: Gospel of the Witches, which may or may not be the sacred text of a pre-Christian Italian goddess-based tradition of magic. Regardless, much of Leland's work has found its way into the modern tradition of Stregheria, an Italian witchcraft tradition: Charles Godfrey Leland.
