From our Diggin' Archaeology files, a new discovery in Monmouth could possibly date to the Neolithic age - which would put it at about two thousand years older than the Egyptian pyramids. The structure, possibly a long house, appears to have been built on the edge of a long-lost lake, which had filled with silt over the centuries. The ruins were discovered by workers at the site of a housing development.
Steve Clarke of Monmouth Archaeology says nothing like this has ever been found in Great Britain. He told the BBC, "We think it's a long house which would have been home to a family, and perhaps used for gatherings and meetings... We're not really sure what it is, it's a mystery, but it's the foundation for something. It's unique. We haven't seen anything like it. Various experts and professors are equally mystified."
