Irish Central reports that Pagan weddings and non-religious unions will finally get legal recognition in Ireland under proposed new legislation. The Civil Registration (Amendment) Bill will make changes to 2004's Civil Registration Act, which regulates how all marriage ceremonies are performed and recorded. The existing law says "only a member of a 'religious body' may celebrate legal marriages," which excludes humanist groups and other non-formalized religious groups.
If passed, the new law will go into effect at some point after a vote from the Irish parliament on Wednesday.
