A new survey indicates that American voters are far more likely to choose their presidential candidate based upon religious beliefs - although I'm not entirely sure that this is a shocker to anyone who follows the political news at all. Anyway, CNN says a Gallup poll reveals that moderate and less religious voters lead towards Barack Obama, while more conservative folks are eager to see Mitt Romney in office. The one exception seems to be Catholics, who prefer Obama over Romney.
The poll, which surveyed slightly over two thousand voters by phone, found "There are stark differences in the preferences of voters based on how religious they are, regardless of their specific faith tradition. Very religious voters, who say religion is a key part of daily life and who attend a house of worship almost every week or more often, account for 41% of voters and back Romney over Obama by 54% to 37%."
Wondering how candidates are influenced by their religious beliefs and background? At this point, it looks like Romney may be the last man standing in the Republican party's race, so be sure to read Religious Views of Mitt Romney and Religious View of Barack Obama.

I think that their findings may be a bit skewed, since many of us Pagans do not have access to a house of worship whether or not we are “very religious” or have religion as a key part of daily life. Then again, Pagans are probably a small percentage of voters. I’d be interested to see what the results would be if they made revisions that would account for the availability of proper houses of worship to people of different religions.
Mitt Romney has definitely never been accused of letting his beliefs get in the way of his shifting positions. Him and Obama will serve their Goldman Sachs corporate masters to the bitter end. Ron Paul is much more interesting because he is a devout christian but he separates his personal views from his politics flawlessly. Don’t count out the only honest man in the race!
