Hired Witch Curses LeBron James

Because of where I live, a significant part of my year is spent watching my neighbors eat, sleep and breathe sports. If it isn't college football, it's pro football, or it's basketball, or the big golf tournament, or major league soccer. You name it, Midwesterners are pretty passionate about their sports. Given that, I probably shouldn't have been suprised when I saw that a Cleveland radio show had a couple of witches come in and put a curse on basketball player LeBron James.

James recently left the Cleveland Cavaliers to head for the warmer climes of the Miami Heat, and people in Ohio are taking it very personally. So Rover, host of the syndicated radio show Rover's Morning Glory on WMMS, had a witch hex James live on the air. The witch, who was identified as Samhain, "used bones, blood, and James' Miami Heat jersey" in the working.

Rover said, "The city of Cleveland has been cursed for decades with losing sports franchises. Now we're going on the offensive to curse others. It may not help our teams win, but it will sure make us feel better."

I’m not entirely sure where this leaves us.

The karma in the world just shifted dramatically.

Umm ya…..ooook. I hope those guys have plans for the Rule of 3. I figured hexing was something you saved for a serious issue, not for the outcome of basketball. sheesh.

While I certainly don’t agree with what they’ve done, nor do I feel that this lends any positive media coverage to the Pagan paths, it is important to remember that not all Witches are Wiccan.

The 3-fold rule and “Harm Ye None” are widely accepted into and are main points of the Wiccan faith, but that does not extend to many other mystical paths. There are many who would not think twice about using magick for selfish purposes, perform for another person, or directly against another individual.

But putting this all aside, does anyone know if these people were “reputable” witches (as reputable as one can get who would agree to do such a thing), or more likely was it simply a stunt for radio?

I am chuckling a little. Just when was this curse laid? The Heat lost to the Boston Celtics and then the Cleveland Cavaliers (sans LeBron and Shaq) beat the Celtics. How’s that for good Karma?! LeBron should have remembered that 3-fold rule himself when he pulled out of cleveland. (oops-guess you can tell I grew up in Celveland…)

You have, perhaps, forgotten to what great nation you and LeBron belong. It is LeBron’s God(dess) given RIGHT to go to whatever team he wishes, for whatever reason he wishes. Who do you Clevelanders think you are? Obviously, you all did not make that man very happy! So, he left! Not one of you has his talent, or luck! Shame on Cleveland for being so possessive! So Mote It Be!

Sports can be great for fun, health, diversion, fostering community, tourism, etc, but I think it says a lot of wrong things when people get so petty as to curse other teams or seriously pray for theirs. It’s amazing how personally invested people think they are in the outcomes of sporting events or how they think it reflects upon their cities and families.

Okay, so I listen to Rover quite often, but I must say I have lost respect for him at this point. Yeah there’s the “Cleveland Curse” but come on… this crap does not make my (or a lot of pagans) everyday life easier when I try to tell people that I don’t put curses on people. I am NOT a fan of LeBron, this is a bit much.

Her website http://www.ladymagick.com doesn’t state that she’s Pagan or Wiccan, just that she’s a psychic and some undisclosed type of ordained minister (internet, I assume). She does humbly state “I am connected to all the true knowledge in the Universe!” so why she doesn’t know about reciprocity is a mystery… Unfortunately most people will not be able to distinguish between this sort of witch and a Wiccan, so it gives us all a bad name anyway.

I thought you were supposed to have “good sportsmanship” in sports. What happened to shaking the other teams hand and wishing each other good luck? Geez … these days it seems that there are no manners, no good wishes, no fun – just me, me, me ….”I need to win at any cost and if I lose, I’ll just have a bad attitude toward everyone else”. It’s a GAME, people!!

What is the service charge for a hex these days…a couple of witches? Not three? Yes, Rev, not all witches are Wiccan.

I personally think this is not the right thing to do. Just because he’s going to Miami?? Really guys?

(18) Jeff Wilson says:

Chances are these idiots weren’t even actual witches but just radio morons doing a radio shtick. The thing that worries me the most is the negative impact people like this and stunts like this have on the way true Wiccans are perceived.
