Temple of Athena Rises Again

I love this! In ancient Greece, legend has it that the goddess Athena bestowed her name upon a city she found favorable, and thus Athens honored her for centuries. Her temple stayed in place until finally falling into disrepair a few hundred years ago. Recent attempts at restoring the temple of Athena Nike on the Acropolis failed, but now it looks like a rebuilding job that began ten years ago will fix previously made errors -- and they're finished with it, which means the temple is back to its former glory. Who is Athena? The temple has undergone a complete makeover. Projecy leader Dionysia Mihalopoulou said, "We have used the latest technology, following successful experimentation with stress and aging. The choice and use of materials was the best possible; they will not corrode.'' In addition to steel grids and new foundations, crews replaced concrete sections with locally-quarried marble. All in all, it looks like a place a goddess would be proud to once again call home. Follow Pagan/Wiccan on Twitter or Join Me On Facebook.

Since Athena is the goddess who “called” me (when I was in 4th grade, even!), this gives me great joy. Greece is the one place I’ve always wanted to go, and this makes it a MUST for me.

Please do go and see Athena’s Temple. Do not be surprised at the size of the building.
Whatever you do, please remember that August is the hottest month. It can be 41 degrees celcius (104 F,) on the group and at least 48 degrees celcius (118 F,) at the top of
the Acropolis. Most who live in the city leave for the Islands.
Don’t forget to drink from the fountain by the tree.

Patti,
From the link page picture, it is so beautiful! I started crying, in this mass-production one size fits all time, Greece has taken the time to care about Her history.

Even the marble is from the ancient quarry, and the past restoration mistakes were removed. You dont hear about that anymore :-/

I hope this helps Greece out Her economic slump.

Hail Athena Twice Born!
