ACLU: Bibles Passed Out in Schools

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) says that school officials in Cheatham County, Tennessee, have not only encouraged prayer at school events, but they've also deliberately tried to promote their own religious beliefs. A lawsuit has been filed on behalf of four anonymous students, stating that "a planned prayer took place at graduation; that the Gideons International were allowed to speak to classes and distribute Bibles; that a cross hangs in a classroom; and that a history teacher" was permitted to teach that America is a "Christian nation."

The lawsuit seeks an injunction against the schools to prevent them from continuing these activities. Attorney George Barrett says that the schools' actions discourage students who may have "divergent views." School board attorneys say they have not yet looked into the allegations that the board endorsed or approved the religious actions by schools.

I’m one of those old school graduates, who plainly recalls in 5th grade, bibles would show up at school, in Texas. We’re talking 40 years ago; still, we were ‘forced’ to take them, regardless.

Since then times have changed, drastically. I’m not going to knock the choices made in the past, but I think there should be a choice- but thats another topic.

A few years ago, when my son was in middle school here in Minnesota, he brought home a Giddeon bible, and gave it to us. I asked where he’d gotten it; he said there was a guy standing on the sidewalk, just out of the line of sight from any of the school offices, talking up the kids and handing out bibles. We called the office immediately – and they were pretty upset about it. They hadn’t requested or gotten permission to hand anything out to students – who knows who this guy was, or if he was some sort of pervert?

I a again goes againest Speration of chruch and State witch is a national law upheld by the supreme court. Witch states that religion of any kind can not or no longer can be tought in public schools.
Now if the school is a privet one that its perfactly fine. I would fight it aswell if it happened here.
I did once tell a teacher that my child will not learn about utah state history util they leave out the extra stuff about the moran church they were making her learn.

A teacher at my school has tried that a few times.
He gets Christian speakers to come and talk, and bribe kids into attending with free pizza. I’ve gone out of curiosity, the lady speaking was an absolute nutter. He also organized a SYATP or wahtever it was called, I didn’t really look into it.
I guess it’s not that weird, my town has a church on every street…

And to High Preistess Char:
One would think that a witch would know the difference between ‘which’ and ‘witch’.

So, since they’re teaching religion in schools, when do they start teaching physics in church?
