Thanks to Vandreyer for sending this one my way -- apparently an Atlanta bus driver has been suspended from his job for making passengers pray before he let them exit the bus. MARTA bus driver Leroy Matthews, who has been with the agency for six years, stopped the bus and asked passengers to join hands and pray with him. He's been suspended for five days, and MARTA officials told him not to proselytize to passengers anymore.

One of my first thoughts was Oh yeah EVERYONE should pray after surviving a bus ride in a metropolis! But joking aside, pretty sadistic of the guy not only from a religious persecution angle but also on a more prosaic interrupting a busy day and preventing all those folks delayed even that few minutes from getting where they needed to go. Not just the ones praying but also those waiting for the bus on down the line. One late bus in that kind of scheduling system can really toss a monkey wrench into the works.
Wha…how….I don’t even….This guy is beyond words. Who thinks holding a bus full of people against their will and forcing them to do things they don’t want is at all reasonable?
Along with being suspended, he should have counceling. He’s gone around the twist. I suppose he could have been ‘born again’ and wanted to share the experience. But those passengers could take legal action for being held against their will, even for a few minutes.
I’d probably charge him for kidnapping. What a nutter. A 5 day suspension is just a slap on the wrist, but hopefully that’s all it takes to get this driver to see his error.
I wonder if he’d let me off the bus after I cast a circle and began calling Quarters?
While I feel the bus driver was in the wrong by not letting people leave the bus I would have had no problem personally saying a prayer to his god with/for him.
I am secure enough in my beliefs as a witch to acknowledge his god without it detracting from my own faith.
A religion is simply a group of people whose beliefs and image of god is close enough that they find a sense of family/belonging that we all seek on some level.
I feel for this man,
Obviously he is in great pain psychologically to have reached this point.
