The Gratuitous Harry Potter Blog Post

Tuesday July 14, 2009
Why, yes, I did know that Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince opens tonight -- and in fact, I do have tickets to go see it at midnight! Someone tell Jason Isaacs that if he needs a date for opening night, I'll be around.

I’m not sure when we will be able to see it. I can’t stay up late at all (I get up for work at 4 am) but I don’t want to go when there will be a lot of little kids there. Such a dilemma!

Love Harry Potter. Have read the books through I don’t even know how many times now and own all DVDs so far. Same for them – no idea how many times I have watched them. Now the Pope finally says oh yeah it’s good stuff. Has all those redeeming qualities about family, friends, sacrifice, fighting evil. Gee. wonder what he was watching before when he condemned Harry? ALL the movies and books have those values.

Dunno if I like that, though. LOL. I kind of like being edgy.

I saw it at 1:00 on Wednesday afternoon. We made it a family affair – something we couldn’t do at a midnight showing. Great film!

Don’t waste your money! Of course everyone who has enjoyed the last few Harry Potters will go to see it expecting the same quality – BUT – the movie was sadly lacking substance – to the point of boredom. Too many seconds spent on longing looks between teenagers and no time spent on the story – especially not on the Half Blood Princes story – not even the genuine grief and anguish at the demise of our dear professor. The whole thing was emotionally flat – script and editing abysmal. If this is the quality we can expect for the next 2 – I’m out – will just curl up with the excellent book again!

Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I have to say it was AWESOME!! Lacking substance it certainly was not. I thought it was as close to the books as they could get and the scene at the end was priceless, even though it wasn’t exactly as it happened in the book. IT ROCKED and people should definitely go see it!
