Memorial Day

By May 25, 2009

It's once again Memorial Day, and for many people, it's a day of mixed emotions. Too often, the purpose of Memorial Day, which is to honor fallen warriors, is overshadowed by political posturing and debate. Regardless of how you feel about it, one cannot avoid the fact that there are thousands of Pagans serving in the military today, and there are many of those who have died in service to their country. This year in San Francisco, the Pagan Alliance and Order of the Pentacle assembled to "remember our Pagan Brothers and Sisters who who gave their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan." They also dedicated a pentacle in honor of Sgt. Jason A. Schumann, a Pagan who was killed two years ago in Iraq.

Please take a moment to remember all of those -- Pagan and otherwise -- who have given their lives in service to their country. For those of you who still serve, we honor you, and hope that you remain safe.

Memorial Day is a sacred day of honor, dedicated to ALL persons who gave it all in the name of this great country, The U.S.A.

It is too bad that has become overshadowed by political posturing and debate, rather than be respected for what it was dedicated to in the first place.
It is too bad so many use this day as a reason to get drunk and rowdy rather than what it was dedicated to in the first place.

–THE FALLEN TROOPS–

The men and women of ALL faiths/Paths who gave their lives so that we can all live as free as possible.

I know this comment is months after May 25th. SGT Schumann was/is my son, and I know Jason was beaming that day.
Thank you so much for saying his name. It keeps him alive.

Candie — please know that so many of us are grateful to Jason and so many others like him who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
