Sex Cult Dude Gets Jail Time

Tuesday December 2, 2008
Coming right on the heels of a reader's question regarding her "weird feelings" about a potential coven, here's one that ought to make you sit up and think twice about hanging out with people who give you the heebie-jeebies. Over in England, a man named Lee Thompson was convicted of forcing his girlfriend to have sex with a number of other men, claiming it was "part of his pagan religion." The judge in the case said Thompson, who also used the name Lee Harrington, had an "extraordinary ability and appetite for dominating and manipulating others."

Apparently so, and these are the types of people you need to watch out for. Just because someone tells you, "I'm Pagan too!" doesn't mean that they're harmless. While no one minds a little bit of naughtiness between consenting adults, Thompson's victim said she was often drugged, and never agreed to have sex with strangers. She told the judge that she was kept in the home against her will.

Thompson and his now ex-girlfriend are part of a group called the Kaotians, which base their teachings and practice on John Norman's Gor fantasy novels of the 1960s. In the Gorean universe, men and women typically follow master/slave roles. Thompson was actually banned from a local store for bringing his girlfriend in on a leash.

What is so unnatural about male slaves. I would love to have 2 or 3 myself. As long as no force is involved I think it sounds ok. However, drugging a person and forcing them to have sex with others is nothing short of wrong.

Consensual slavery can be a great thing for people who are suited to it. It ceases to be healthy or consensual when coerced (by definition ;) . The Gorean lifestyle is kind of messed up in principle and ethics, but does appeal to many.

I don’t know the details of the story, but I am a bit concerned, because what I’ve read makes it sound like he convinced her to have sex with other men, as opposed to forced her. Lying to someone about your religious belief in order to get sex is IMO unethical, but I don’t think it’s illegal. It also concerns me that she waited years to come forward and I haven’t read anything about actual force or coercion being used.

If your boyfriend says he’ll leave you if you don’t do a three-way with him and another person, and you then do it to keep him, does that constitute force?

I suspect it’s a problem with the news coverage, not the ruling itself, but it concerns me that voluntary lifestyle choices are being equated with rape and enslavement.

Well theo the Gorean Lifestyle is messed up I agree, but for those that do live that way it is alright i guess, here are a few sites of information for those that may not be familar with it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorean

and the last one is a news article about a Womens right to be a Gor slave, http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/508733/the_gorean_lifestyle_a_womans_right.html

Theo, that’s a good point, and I do think the news coverage seems to be focusing more on “oh aren’t these blokes kinky.” However, some of the reports indicate that the woman who pressed charges was drugged and passed around when she was too incoherent to consent or not.

If everyone consents, I don’t think it should matter if you want to have sex wearing a paper bag and a football helmet. However, this does appear to be more than just some harmless consensual kink.

As to why she waited until after she was out of the relationship to file charges… who knows? Many victims of sex crimes wait years to speak up, and there’s typically a variety of reasons for it.

I agree though — the news seems to be more titillated by the bondage lifestyle bit of the story than anything else, which is sad.

My family and I visited a Gathering in south GA a few yyears back. We read on the internet that it would have “clothing optional and BDSM in a closed off area”. As the week went on the collars and leashes became more and more in the open to be seen. It really didn’t bother most of us, but I did have to answer a few questions for some friends who happened to see the “slaves”.
All in all it was a learning experiance for my spouse and I after we took some classes that answered alot of questions for us as well.
It really wasn’t for us, but I could see where it may hold great appeal for some.

Rinny, a lot of people do choose alternate lifestyles. But there’s a big difference between people who choose the lifestyle and those who are manipulated into it. This person, not a true pagan from the description of the situation, is using religion to control his followers. This kind of thing is what gives all pagans a bad name-just like TV evangelists with mistresses or Mormon polygamists with “child brides.”
