Beltane: Rituals and Celebrations

Tuesday October 28, 2008
For our Southern Hemisphere readers, spring is on its way! That means Beltane is coming up this weekend, so you're probably planning some sort of event. Whether it's a quiet ceremony with a few friends, or a big outdoor gathering, here are a few ideas on how to welcomg the greening of the earth.

Even though it's not May, the Maypole Dance is a tradition in most Beltane celebrations. Find a way to incorporate it into your festivities... you don't *have* to call it a Maypole, because it's really just a big phallic symbol. You can call it anything you like - perhaps a Beltane Pole?

In addition to fertility, Beltane is a time to celebrate fire. Why not host a big Beltane Bonfire Ritual?

If you've got small children and aren't crazy about having people dance around a giant ribbon-draped phallus in your back yard, try this Family Abundance Rite instead.
