Samhain: Deities of Death

Although in modern society, we tend to give death a wide berth, in many cultures it was given a hearty respect. Nearly every ancient civilization includes in their myths and legends a god or goddess of death. Sometimes they were seen as a keeper of the Underworld, other times they were warriors that chose who lived and died in battlefield. However, one thing that nearly all deities of death have in common is that they are typically associated with the season of the final harvest. Deities of Death and Dying
