Samhain: Black Cats
Friday October 3, 2008
Every year when people begin putting out their Halloween decorations, and we start dressing our homes for Samhain, inevitably the image of the black cat comes up. It's usually portrayed with its back arched, claws out, and occasionally wearing a jaunty pointed hat. My cats aren't black -- one is twenty pounds of tubby calico, and the other is a sleek gray & white girl. So what's up with the whole idea of witches and their cats? More importantly, how did the black cat come to be associated with the Halloween and Samhain season? Read on to find out! Black Cats

As long as “they” are my familiars, I dont really care what the package is wrapped in. I just love my cats…Isabella and Paloma….and they always remind me that I am not the one in charge!

My roots are in tradition that a black cat was LUCKY! Probably due to Celtic roots of my Christianized ancestors. So, we always had at least one black cat around. Seems the fear of black cats is more Germanic. Currently have two- one a senior citizen manx (Sponge Bob) who talks more than any Siamese I ever had and a lithe, nubile, young lady (Elvira.)
Our cats work for a living around the farm keeping rats and mice out of grainery. They also do a magnificint job on wookalars, fork tailed snorks, and the odd snot winged booglie, too. LOL
Laugh, dance, VOTE!
