Yorkshire Farmer Builds Own Stonehenge
Saturday September 27, 2008
This is the sort of thing I'd love to do someday, if I had some land far from the madding crowd. Derek Plews, a farmer in North Yorkshire, has spent the past three years designing and building his very own version of Stonehenge. Plews calls it Sentry Circle, and it consists of fourteen standing stones arranged in a ring about 25 meters across. The final stone was placed this past weekend.
Plews says he built the site in his field as a place of spiritual harmony, rather than as a tourist attraction, and he plans to allow camping events, festivals, and Pagan weddings at the location. The stones are lined up according to megalithic measurements and are lined up astrologically. Each of the stones is named for one of the Celtic tree months.
This is really cool. Kudos to Plews not only for building this, but for allowing other people to share in the harmony he has created.

That is freaking sweet! I’d love to go see that someday!
I’ve always wanted to do someting like that!!!
(if only I had a yard….)
This is exactly what I have been saying to people for years: that as the original henge sites are fragile World Heritage sites, we as pagans need to build new holy sites. It does indeed take money and space, but the rewards are incredible. Just think of all the symbolism a community of pagans could charge their own community henge with…just the same sentiments are ancenstors had about their community-built henges.

Onnly one word really comes to mind - wow. That is actually really impressed, kudos to that man!
