In Athens, Greece, a group called Ellinais gathered at the Acropolis the other day and prayed to Athena to protect historic sites and the city itself. Priestess Doretta Peppa and about two hundred others met in hopes of stopping the removal of sacred sculptures and artifacts to museums. Greece's temples are in bad shape these days, what with tourists picking up bits and pieces here, and the government moving major pieces to new museums elsewhere. Peppa said, "This is the first prayer ceremony on the Acropolis since Parthenon was converted into a church."
Athens is named for its patron goddess, Athena, who was a deity of war and wisdom. Although Greece is now primarily Orthodox Christian, there are still small pockets of people who follow the old Olympian gods. Ellinais is an acronym in Greek for "Sacred Society of Greek Ancient Religionists."

I think that a group of like minded Athenian worshipers should petition their government to RESTORE the temple to it’s original splendor! Then worship as befitting the Goddes Athena!
Hellos,
I second the above comment; about restoring the temples to their former glory.
Maybe a neo/Pagan Temple Conservation Trust could be set-up, to serve such a purpose. People donate money to what ever temple they want, then the money goes to rebuilding based on historiclly accurate records of what it looked like.
Ohh the beauty of them! Giant temples of marble, with their columns and terra-cotta roof tiles…same goes with the beauty of Egyptian, Celtic, Norse, African, Druidic, Asian, Tribal American…each one a wonder of the world…

I think that the pagans should protest because the Greek government has no right to destroy any temples that are deacated to any of the gods. The Partheon has been around for thousands of years along w/ other temples so destroy them is like destroying the gods. The Pagans have a duty to each god & goddess which the do & I beening a Amercican Greek Pagan agree w/ the other pagans.
