DNC Interfaith Service Really Was Interfaith
Monday August 25, 2008
Much to the surprise and delight of many of us, it turns out that the interfaith ceremony held yesterday at the Democratic National Convention actually was an interfaith ceremony. As the Democratic Party works hard to close the "god gap," I think a lot of folks expected it to be an event with a lot of Christian imagery, a token rabbi or two, and one of our Muslim friends putting in an appearance just so the organizers could say, "Look at how inclusive we are!" Instead, some suprising news comes from a Pagan who's embedded at the DNC.
Delegate Rita Moran, who has been blogging over at Blue Pagans, says "Clergy with significant parts of the service included Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and Buddhist (they're pantheist, right?), but nowhere was there the sort of heavily trodden path of "we're Christian and everyone else had best keep out of our way" that is often seen in so-called interfaith observances." Moran adds that the best part was when Rev. Leah Daughtry, a Christian pastor, said, "We are created in the image of our Creator, whatever we call Him or Her."
How cool is that? Actual acknowledgement of the sacred feminine at a political shindig. If you want to get regular updates from the Blue Pagans blog, you can subscribe via RSS feed or by email alerts.
Oh, and if you're not registered vote in the upcoming election, do so! Rock the Vote

Well that’s good…I like fair thoughts.
Buddhist are not pantheist. They have some deities (depends what form of Buddhism, some have none) that are considered God-like, but nothing like Gods in other religions. Buddhist generally don’t worry about whether there is, or is not a God(s).
Ah, finally an interfaithService that actually lives up to its name.
It is like a breath of fresh air!!!
It is good to hear comments such as Leah Daughtry’s, especially considering Daughtry is a Chrisian Pastor.
Very incouraging.
Just the fact that there was a LADY PASTOR is pretty astonishing to me (but I was raised Catholic and Southern Baptist, so that’s fairly unheard of, ESPECIALLY here in the South).
Yea for making progress!
