Northumberland Neolithic Stoneworks Discovered

Over a hundred Neolithic rock carvings have been discovered in Northumberland, Great Britain, and experts say they could "have played a role in fire, feastings and offering activities, or been used as ‘signposts’, or to mark territory." Another possibility is that they are spiritual markers, and could have been our ancestors' way of honoring the gods of their tribe. These are really cool to look at - volunteers from English Heritage mapped out the carvings to create 3D computer representations. The three dimensional images can be moved and rotated onscreen by researchers, so they can analize the carvings from any view.

No problem, I thought it was really cool! Some of the designs on the ERA site are so beautiful, I think they’d actually make really lovely tattoos.
What fascinates me most about this is that people who had sticks and rocks could create stuff that has lasted for thousands of years, and yet my three-year-old microwave seems to be made up of parts that need replacing and repair on a regular basis.
