Vandals Damage Central Megalith at Stonehenge

Thursday May 22, 2008
British officials say that two men used a hammer and chisel to damage the central megalith at Stonehenge last week, and English Heriage spokespeople say the vandals could have been trying to nab a souvenir. Reports say that a "chip of stone about the size of a large coin was removed" and a scratch measuring about 2 1/2" long was left on another stone. Wiltshire police are investigating.

Wow. That’s super crappy. Only possitive thing I can think of is that at least it wasn’t worse. Seriously, it takes a “special” sort of person to think “Yeah, this is a good idea,”

(2) sparraluna says:

What is wrong with some people. Would they dare to chisel away at Notre Dame Cathedral or the Vatican? Or even someone’s gravestone? Ash is right though it could have been much worse, at least they didn’t turf the ground and knock anything over. Unlike what today’s young vandal’s do.

That is beyond messed up. Some people don’t respect anything these days.

What IDIOTS..How can anyone be so stupid and uncaring of history? I agree that it could have been worse, but this was bad enough don’t you think? I thought they had some type of security around those sites.

(5) Ash says:

Yes, it is bad enough, but when I first read the head line I had pictured toppled stones or spray paint. I guess I was a little relieved that it was what it was compaired to my imagination, but its still horrible.

The sanctity of any place of power should be respected. I can’t help but wonder at some of these souvenir hunters ~ and what this does to their karma….this is the reason that people cannot go into the area, right? Where was everyone that was supposed to protect this sacred place?

I just don’t understand people today. If something looks nice they go out and deface it just in the name of wanting a piece of history for themselves. I just have one word for people who are like that IDIOTS!! And I’m being nice when I say that.

When I read something like this, I immediately think ‘KARMA’. There are some things that we have to let higher powers take action for. I am sorry that they harmed the stones and changed the energy, but stonehenge has survived far worse. These men will pay for their behavior, we may not hear about it, but I am sure they will suffer the consequences.
Blessed Be!

Its such a shame when people resort to this sort of thing. Its such a disrespectful act, but the law of karma will be on them. I get the feeling that they may have thought that to get a piece of stonehedge may help them power wise. If that were the case then they are obvious novices, they are ignoring the laws of the craft.

(10) Kristine says:

Fools! “They know not what they do.” But yes like everyone else has said, it could have been worse, and now I fear that their curiousity may get an even better hold on them. This time it was only a chip, but next time it might be the whole thing. I hope that it does not come to pass for their sakes and the sake of what Stonehenge stands for.

Ouch. That is really sad. It also makes me sad for whoever did this—what experience taught them that this would be a good idea? I, too, believe in Karma.

What idiots.

(13) Julia says:

When we toured Stonehenge last summer the guide told us that local blacksmiths in the 18th and 19th centuries used to rent out their tools to tourists to take “samples” for souvenirs. Some things never change!

(14) Black Kat says:

So sad. In answer to the comment about gravesites, yes they are defacing them, too! Vandals (crackheads) are stealing the copper memory lamps from graves! To the unenlightened, NOTHING is sacred! You just have to feel sorry for them….& the families/victims.

(15) Amsyn says:

Unbelievable. How horrible that someone would have the gall to damage a holy monument that’s structure is is intregral to it’s use. Not only does Stonehenge measure dates and time, it also reverbrates certain sound vibration…. But remember the 3fold law…it will come back to them, the unfortunate part is that no matter how much these people suffer for their actions, that chip will always be there!!!!

(16) Billie Joe says:

For they should just leave the Gr8t Stonehenge alone. For they should have never started diging around it to start with .

(17) Lady Fire Star says:

Ignorance is just that! This stuff happens all the time. People have no respect for themselves, never mind what is important to other people. This is tantamount to the idiots that go into grave yards and destroy headstones and paint ephitets of every description. This is a sacred site, regardless of what you believe religiously. To desecrate it is like going into Notre Dam Cathedral in Paris, France or one of the religious sites in any other place and doing the same thing. Its wrong, plain and simple and I hope these lunatics get caught. Nothing good will come from destoying and stealing a religious object and this is what this is, not to mention historical!
