Patti's Paganism / Wicca BlogAlms for Burma Info AvailableSeveral people have emailed me asking if I knew of any Pagan groups that are offering aid right now in Asia. I don't know of any specifically Pagan ones, but Barbara O'Brien, our About.com guide to Buddhism, has assembled a collection of links to organizations that are taking donations for relief efforts in Burma, following the devastating cyclone that has killed thousands.
Estimates of the dead place the numbers at anywhere between 25,000 and 50,000, some killed by the storm that hit Myanmar, others by a tidal wave. Those who have survived -- and that's about three million homeless people -- are left with just a few days' worth of food. Nearly all of Burma's rice and vegetable fields have been destroyed, and the local military regime is making it hard for outsiders to provide aid. International groups are trying to get medical supplies and food in, but it's going to be a difficult task. Thanks in advance to all of you who have offered your assistance.
