PBS's "Carrier" Looks at Religion Aboard Ship
Monday May 5, 2008
This is a nifty thing I found while trolling around my local cable provider's listings last night. Apparently PBS ran a series last week entitled "Carrier," which is a reality show centering around the crew and missions of the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz. As I scrolled through the episode guide, it turns out that installment #8, entitled True Believers, touches on the different faiths onboard the ship. In addition to the majority groups of Catholics and Protestants, the Nimitz has a Wiccan coven onboard. You can watch this episode, and the others, online at Carrier: Full Episodes.

Yeah, I saw that episode yesterday. It was nice to see religious tolerance, for once. I heard somewhere that the number of practicing pagans is on the rise in the military.
Its not really the numbers of practicing Pagans is rising, its more of you’re finding more who are willing to risk bringing it out into the open. When I was in in the Navy I can’t begin the count the number of time I was advised by others in the pagan communities to keep my choice of faith quiet because of religious lashback from others in my command. I’ve seen it happen many times while i was in.
I’ve recently joined and wanted to introduce myself
