Springfield Attorney Makes Lawsuit Prediction

By , About.com GuideJanuary 25, 2008

Follow me on:

A Springfield, LA, resident filed a suit against the parish's council when they passed an ordinance prohibiting soothsaying. Wiccan minister Cliff Eakin owns of a metaphysical shop, Gryphon’s Nest Gifts, at which he charges for Tarot readings and other divination sessions. In the suit, Eakin's attorneys say the legislation is unconsitutionally vague, and was designed to "promote Christian mythology over paganism."

Council attorney Blayne Honeycutt is making a prediction of his own, and warning lawmakers that this is a suit they probably won't win, and advised council to repeal the ordinance. The item was scheduled for discussion at Thursday night's council meeting, but councilman Randy Rushing suggested that the legislation, enacted last May, be tabled until a public hearing could be held. A hearing is scheduled for February 11.

What utter stupidity. Who do these people think they are? Do they believe they can stop or hinder the pursuit of another persons freedom of religion in the US? Where do they think they live and in what time period? Get a grip people. That’s why we live in the US, to believe and practice what we believe. Go to another far away country if you want to “stop soothsayers” better yet, just go away. The rest of us are adults who want to continue to enjoy our FREEDOM.. What a load of crap.
