In the ever-evolving saga of the Green Bay Holiday Display War, one of the city councilman who actually helped erect the Nativity scene on top of city hall is now having second thoughts.
Council vice president Chris Wery submitted a letter to Green Bay mayor Jim Schmitt saying, "I am hopeful in the spirit of the season, should the display be removed, that all talk of lawsuits will end... neither side wants to divide our community."
Schmitt was out of the office during the latter part of the week but left a message for residents saying he was sure that keeping the Nativity scene up while prohibiting any other displays would "pass Constitutional muster." This does make one wonder exactly which version of the Constitution -- if any -- Schmitt has been reading.
Wery helped council president Chad Fradette install the Nativity scene last week, but now says that the issue has become too divisive, and that he wants to see peace restored in the community. He also said that he hoped removal of the Nativity might help the city avoid a lawsuit and develop a policy towards future holiday displays.

It seems that as this country progresses it forgets the foundation of its beginning and why the masses of people came here seeking freedoms free of tyrannical venues of their homelands and still seek refuge today from tyranny, suppression and religious persecution.
I’ll keep my comments simple; either take it down, or allow symbols of all religions. Either be all-inclusive or completely secular (personally, I’d prefer governments keep things totally secular).
