Dixie Chick Joins in WM3 Support
Tuesday December 11, 2007
Dixie Chick Natalie Maines, who in the past came under fire for her outspoken opposition to George W. Bush's presidency, has joined the ranks of celebrities and Just Average Folks who are supporting the West Memphis Three. In her blog recently, Maines stated that after viewing the HBO documentaries Paradise Lost and Paradise Lost 2, she believes Damien Echols, Jesse Misskelley, and Jason Baldwin did not recieve a fair trial.
While I'm typically skeptical (or at the very least, indifferent) when a celebrity adopts a cause, I also think it can be a good thing. There may well be people out there who are clueless about the existence of these three men and everything they've faced, and if Maines can bring some attention to the case with a new group of people, then good for her. At the very least, she seems willing to contribute financially to their cause, and that's always needed.
Other celebrities who have joined the WM3 bandwagon include Black Flag frontman Henry Rollins, actress Winona Ryder, actors Johnny Depp and Jack Black, and members of Metallica.
