No Witch School for Bunky
Tuesday November 6, 2007
Despite rapidly spreading rumors that lottery winner Elwood "Bunky" Bartlett was starting up his own version of Witch School with his winnings, it would appear that's not exactly the case. Bartlett himself has tried to clarify the story that appeared last week in a number of newspapers, and says he'd rather create a sort of spiritualty center that welcomes all faiths, rather than "some sort of Hogwarts-on-the-Patapsco, with precocious adolescents running around in wizard hats and casting spells."
When he won the MegaMillions lottery, Bartlett said he had prayed to the gods, and promised that if he did win, he'd use the windfall to help educate others. Now he's making good on his promise. He hopes that his planned Willow Springs Sanctuary and Community Center can offer classes about a variety of religions, as well as offering technology courses for those seeking job training. Bartlett also hopes to make counseling available for those who need it.

I hope all goes well Bunky!!! Good luck
I really do wish the best for Bunky. If I read correctly he’s one of Cabot’s ilk, and I have great respect for them. But I was really distressed to see him make certain statements. Particularly ‘I have the ability to deflect the curses that come my way.’ — I can just hear all the hacks and teeny-boppers seeing the challenge in that statement and trying to cause him trouble.
Hell, for a second and a half, I felt the challenge. Saying something like that publicly is an invitation for people to put you to the test. It comes off supremely arrogant and condescending, and certainly made me a little annoyed.
For all that, he’s been well-spoken, honest, and appears down to earth, so I wish him the best of luck in this endeavor.
How awesome. I love that he came forward as a Wiccan. He answered that pesky question about why Witches don’t win the lottery. Now he’s sharing his blessings, in a public way, he’s answering the question of why Witches don’t donate to charity, too! Even better, he’s really making an effort to help others. Thank you for sharing this update.
I saw Bunky’s interview for the first time yeasterday on TLC. You have truly been blessed and a blessing to others.
So far I have not won, I guess all I can do it try, try and try. Times have really been challenging, as if I have a curse on me.
