FAQ: Is a Pay-For-Spells Service Legit?

Saturday September 22, 2007
Brian writes to the Pagan/Wiccan magical e-mail bag: I'm new to Wicca and magic so I'm not really confident yet in my own ability to cast a spell -- I just don't think I know enough about it yet. I found a place online that will cast a spell for me for less than $30. Do you know anything about [name of business], like if they're a legitimate business or if there have been complaints about them? They say there's a money back guarantee.

An excellent question, and one that comes up more frequently than you'd expect. The question here is not whether or not Lady X's Magical Mojo Service is capable of casting a spell and performing magic on your behalf. The question is Is Lady X an Ethical Business Person? Because the fact is, the Internet is a really big place, and it's full of people. Some are honest, some are not. Just like when you buy a car or any other product, it's up to you as a consumer to be cautious about who you trust.

I've always felt that with a bit of study and some effort, ANYONE can cast a spell. However, if you're really worried about your own lack of ability, you may want to read further before you plunk down your hard-earned cash: Should I Pay For SpellCasting Services?

(1) Toni says:

As a Wiccan shop owner and spell caster I would not trust anyone who tells you they “guarantee” their spell. The outcome of the spell depends upon too many factors and what you are actually paying for is the person’s time which is expended whether or not the spell manifests.

I have a problem with paying for spells. If you’re going to cast a spell, first off, you should know why you’re doing it and all the ins-and-outs of the issue. Then the spell should be fashioned taking all those issues, as well as the Threefold Law and Harm None, into consideration. How can a “One-Spell-Fits-All” spell work under those circumstances?

Not to mention that a Wiccan newby should think 5 or 6 times before he or she decides to cast a spell. Casting spells is NOT a cure-all, and shouldn’t be a first response to everything. I’m bothered by this person’s email…he sounds like he’s more entranced (pun intended!) by the idea of spellcasting than in knowing the whys and wherefores.

(3) Mary says:

Buyer Beware. No one can guarantee a spell will work. Spells should be done after much thought and consideration and by the person who is thinking about doing it. Nobody cares about your issue more than you do and that means that the energy and focus necessary can only be provided by you. Also-the karma and three fold issues are yours as well. Why would anyone else want to take that on? Study alot and think even more before you cast a spell. They are powerful things.

I get this all the time, too! I am a professional psychic (& former Pagan shop owner) That means I use my gifts to earn a living. I have no other job on the side. It is not wrong to accept $ for your services. However, I do not guarantee anything, though the outcomes are usally good. Sadly, there are many scam artists out here trying to make a fast buck (as in ANY profession) and that gives the real witches & psychics a bad name.
It is always best to do your own spells because the INTENT is greater, but not wrong to ask or pay for assistance!

(5) Joe Moonraven says:

Selling spells is not right. A spell is a personal movement of energy, created by the witch casting it. When you pass it along to someone else, they will not put the same in it that was ment for it.
I honestly think people should write thier own, if you can’t write… get help. but, buying online spells is a joke!

(6) Brazilian witch says:

I asked my personal horoscope for free at net and every day since this I receive e-mails about lots of money I could receive if I pay for a “complete reading”, obscure visions they had about me and if I pay they would see better, bla, bla, bla. And the last one about a tarot reading, the reader showed the cards, but wrote about other cards. So…

I think you should dtudy some more and do your own spell- at first it is kinda nerve wracking- just remember the gods are humorous and don’t mind if you make mistakes as long as your heart and emotions are in the right place- the more you cast spells the easier they become!!! Remember Practice practic practice!!! lighten up and have some fun

(8) Sandy S says:

Yes and No. I think even Christian sects or alternative spiritual denominations have practitioners that will sit and pray with you, for you, on your behalf for a fee or a donation. It’s a service. And churches still pass the basket at services, too. But just typing a spell on the internet to an unknown software program isn’t any different than doing it yourself. READ up on the methods and start practicing them. Build your own power, and have faith in the powers that you call upon be they elements, gods and goddesses, or your own Higher Self and BELIEVE the spell is working and it IS. Magic is defined similar to what the new though religions as well as pagans are saying: It’s using your creative/spiritual power & intent to cause a change in the unseen world (consciousness)and thereby manifesting what you desire in the physical world. Just DO IT. If you believe you can, you can. There is no power in the universe to stop you.

I agree with Goatess, no one has as much vested interest in your goals as you do. Always side with caution! If you are determined to proceed, try candle magic.

(10) Phoenixember says:

paying for a spell is way too dangerous a thing to do, you never know what kind of effect it will have on all parties involved or the person doing it for you what their intent might be..and just like everyone else on here i will tell you that study will be your biggest benefit, but if you have a trusted pagan friend who has years of experience themselves to learn fromm and work with, you’d be surprised how quickly your confidence will rise..and if it makes you feel any better..we have all been there and making our own mistakes is all part of universal learning experience..brightest blessings

I know a lady that does card and palm and crystal ball readings and charges a lot for a spell!Truth is the best spells, are the ones you do for yourself,It may cost for a spell, but the only thing that should cost is the items you bought to do nit yourself!

(12) Nix says:

i qoute fore an old wiccan grimore”And strictly keep to the Old Law, never accept money for the use of the art. It is Christian priests and sorcerers who accept money for the use of their Arts, and they sell Dwale and evil love spells and pardons to let men scape from their sins. [75] Be not as these. Be not as these. If you accept not money, you will be free of temptation to use the Art for evil causes.
